I enabled in WinExplorer menu

Tools->Folder options->View->Hide empty drives in the computer folder.

However (even after restart) empty dirves (like my DVD drive (=no media inside)) are shown in WinExplorer as drives.

Why?
How can I disable otherwise empty drives in WinExplorer?

Solution
This works in most cases. but there are answers where it failed!
Start - Run - gpedit.msc
- Templates>Windows Components - Windows Explorer

Scroll down to "Hide these specified drives in "My Computer"", and double click.
In the next Windo "Enable"
Move down to the lower window and select the drop down menu.
Choose the drives you wish to hide.
Don't forget to "Apply"
'Hide empty drives in the Computer folder' means card-reader type usb things and not optical drives. You can twirl up the "Devices with removable storage" to "not show" the optical drives section.

Ok, thank you. But where exactly do I find the option "Devices with removable storage"?

At least it does not exist in menu

WinExplorer->Tools->Folder options

If you set your "My Computer" window's VIEW to anything but "list", it will automatically separate the hard drives from the optical drives, giving each section a "swirly" arrow to hide that section. You don't have to go into options.

Hmm, where is that "Swirly" arrow exactly?

Have a look at the attached snapshot.

I meant the swirlies on the right side. Not in the navigation panel.

This would hide them permanently. I want to auto-hide them only if they are (currently) empty.
