When you play back an audio file on a Windows 8 or Windows Server 2012-based computer that contains a high definition audio (HDAudio) device, the system may crash.

This issue occurs because of a race condition when starting the HDAudio device.

To resolve this issue, install Microsoft support files from the Microsoft Download Center, or install the hotfix that is described in this article.

Restoring the Audio Driver in Windows 8
  1. Move the mouse pointer to the lower-left corner of the screen, right-click, select Device Manager from the menu.
  2. Double-click Sound, video, and game controllers.
  3. Right-click the name of the audio device and select Properties.
  4. Click the Driver tab.
  5. Click Roll Back Driver.

I hope this helps!
