Hello all!

My Outlook (2010) is configured for use with my AOL account. However, it doesn't sync all the folders. Specifically it won't sync my Spam folder. Outlook has a "Junk E-Mail" folder that occasionally picks up some spam emails, but not the ones that end up in AOL's spam folder.

This became a problem for me when I realized that I had missed a few very important emails by a few days because they were incorrectly categorized as spam in AOL, and therefore never reached my Outlook.

Does anyone know of a way I can fix this?

Thank you.

Solution
To resolve the issue with Outlook not syncing all folders, including the Spam folder in your AOL account, you can try the following steps:

Checking Outlook Settings:

  1. IMAP Settings: Ensure that your AOL account is configured as an IMAP account in Outlook. IMAP syncs folders directly with the mail server, unlike POP which might not sync all folders.
  2. Re-Adding the Account: Sometimes, removing and re-adding the email account in Outlook can fix syncing issues. This clears up any configuration errors that might be causing problems.

  3. Whitelisting Addresses: Whitelisting email addresses that you frequently receive important emails from can help prevent them from ending up in the AOL...

  4. Custom Filters: AOL may provide settings to customize how spam is handled. Adjusting these filters can help improve email delivery.

    Outlook Junk Email Settings:

  5. Junk Email Filter: Ensure that the Junk Email filter settings in Outlook are correctly adjusted. You can add trusted senders to the safe senders list to avoid important emails being marked as spam.

    Additional Suggestions:

    • Check Mail Rules: Make sure there are no rules set up in Outlook that might be moving emails to other folders.
  • Update Outlook and AOL: Ensure both Outlook and AOL Mail are updated to their latest versions to avoid any compatibility issues. By following these steps and adjusting the settings in both Outlook and AOL, you should be able to resolve the syncing issue with your AOL Spam folder and prevent important emails from being missed. If the problem persists, consider reaching out to AOL or Microsoft support for further assistance.
