Hi, when I do a search in my Windows 7 Explorer (not IE) search box, the box only shows 3 past searches in the history suggestions, and I want to increase that number. For example, now it shows::

"Control
Interest
book"

I want it to display more than 10, for instance::

"Control
Interest
book
hunger
games
harrison
job
etc"

I have looked everywhere on the internet, and only can come up with either deleting the history or enabling it, via the wordwheelquery in the Registry...so is there a way to do this or am I stuck with only the 3 last searches.

Need either a registry edit or a way to do this without using a registry edit, thanks so much.

Solution
To adjust the number of past searches displayed in the Windows 7 Explorer search box history, you can make changes in the Windows Registry. However, if you prefer to avoid modifying the Registry directly, there might be methods or tools available that can help achieve your goal without diving into the Registry settings. Here are two approaches you can consider:

Method 1: Modifying the Registry (Increasing Number of Search History Suggestions)

To increase the number of search history suggestions shown in Windows 7 Explorer search box, you can modify the WordWheelQuery value in the Registry. Here's how you can do it:

  2. Navigate to the following key:
    Code:
     HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer
  3. Locate the WordWheelQuery value.
  4. Double-click on WordWheelQuery and change the value to the desired number (e.g., 10).
  5. Click OK to save the changes.
  6. Close the Registry Editor and restart your computer to apply the changes.

    Method 2: Using Third-Party Tools

If you prefer not to make changes in the Registry, you can explore third-party tools that might offer options to customize the search history suggestions in Windows Explorer. These tools can provide a user-friendly interface to adjust such settings without directly accessing the Registry. Before proceeding with any third-party tool, make sure to research and choose a reputable and trusted application to avoid any unwanted consequences. By following one of these methods, you should be able to increase the number of past searches displayed in the Windows 7 Explorer search box history. Feel free to try these methods and let me know if you need further assistance!
