I don't know specifically how to change what you're seeing but I can offer that it is not an "error" or software malfunction. Icons have a certain number of pixels. The downside of using a monitor with a freakishly high resolution in a standard size package is that the pixels are really small so the icons takes up a lot less of the screen real estate. You need to look for an option to use extra large icons or perhaps to zoom the entire screen when you run programs for which this is a problem.

Hi

To run on that high a resolution you may want to change the settings for everything.

Right click on the desktop and select Personalize.
Then select Display.

Now you will see the option to change the size of items.
You can use the custom settings to set the size of your display to anything you want, but I've used 135% on my 27" monitor for years.

On the retina display you may need to go higher then that.
Try 150% and see what it looks like.

You can also select options to change the size of several items individually.
I have the type under Icons set to 12 pt instead of the default 9.
