Hi,
My wife purchased a recon PC with Windows 10 installed, it networked with my windows 7 PC okay. I've finaly gotten round to upgrading my PC to windows 10 and I cannot see her PC. How do I go about getting the two PCs to be on the network?
thanks,
Gerald

Solution
On her computer
  • Click on the Start Button
  • Type powershell
  • Right click on the powershell icon and select 'Run As Administrator'
  • Type or copy the following Set-NetConnectionProfile -NetworkCategory Private
If they're connected to the same LAN either wired out wireless they are networked.

Thanks for the reply,
she can see my PC but I cannot see hers. Network Discovery is set to on. I have not yet restarted the PCs yet, will I have to restart them both for the networks to see each other? I have a few things to do yet before I restart my PC.

Is her firewall set to private or public?

I don't know, when I was running Windows 7 on my PC there were no problems, we could both see each other

From file explorer on your system, if you click Network does it throw an error?

No error, it just shows my PC. the router and the Smart TV

Make sure file sharing is on as well. I believe that is required to see other Windows devices

File and printer sharing is on for private, guest and public networks. I'm 73 and this is a bit above me at the moment, it was all running okay before I upgraded

I've just checked both PCs, her PC shows as a public network and mine shows as a private network. How do I get to make them both the same?
