Hi everybody,

My laptop (Intel based) died suddenly and I simply mounted old hard disc to a new one (AMD based). I cannot repair win 7 installation. I don't want to do clean install if possible. Any Suggestions/advice ?

Regards,

V

It may not do that, but use the install disk and find the repair option. I have not done it so there may be a tutorial around somewhere.

You will probably have to reactivate no matter what.

Activation won't work because bios is different. Microsoft will think you are trying to use the same key on two systems. As for swapping a hard drive from one system to another.... especially a laptop to a desktop... it will be a huge success and good fortune if you get all the hardware drivers corrected. If I had that much good luck I rather use it at the casino.

I think microsoft will give you a new key and kill your old one if you call and tell them you had to replace your motherboard. You can experiment, maybe get it to work and probably learn something interesting and valuable.. but in the end you'll probably have to do a clean install.
