I am the sole user of a netbook and have no password to access my windows account (never used a computer with multiple accounts)

The Windows user screen pops up about every 10 minutes and I have to click on my profile pic in order to return to the screen I was viewing.

I have no screen saver set up so that I can stay connected without this happening BUT I have no idea how to stop Windows from putting up this black screen every few minutes.

Please tell me how to make it stop.

Many thanks.

To resolve the issue of the Windows user screen popping up every 10 minutes when you are using your netbook, you can adjust the settings related to user account control and screen timeout in Windows. Here's how you can stop the black screen from appearing frequently:

Adjust User Account Control Settings:

  1. Press the Windows key + R to open the Run dialog.
  2. Type Control Panel and press Enter.
  3. In the Control Panel, navigate to User Accounts > User Accounts.
  4. Click on Change User Account Control settings.
  5. Drag the slider to the bottom to set it to Never notify, which will reduce the frequency of the user account control prompts.

    Adjust Screen Timeout Settings:

    Adjust Screen Timeout Settings:

  6. Press the Windows key + I to open Settings.
  7. Go to System > Power & sleep.
  8. Under the Screen section, adjust the dropdown menu for On battery power, turn off after and When plugged in, turn off after to a longer duration or select Never to prevent the screen from turning off automatically.

    Disable Lock Screen:

  9. Press the Windows key + R to open the Run dialog.
  10. Type gpedit.msc and press Enter to open the Local Group Policy Editor.
  11. Navigate to Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Control Panel > Personalization.
  12. Double-click on Do not display the lock screen and select Enabled to disable the lock screen. After making these changes, your netbook should no longer display the black screen every few minutes, allowing you to stay connected without interruptions. If you encounter any difficulties or have any other questions, feel free to ask!
