In windows 10 there is a option called Choose what the power buttons do in power options, in that drop down list there is option to turn off the display when pressing power button. now i have installed windows 8.1 because of windows 10's bugs such as PC not shutting down completely and Critical process died error and problems.

In Windows 8.1 there is no option to turn off the display when pressing power button in power options is there any way to turn off the display when pressing power button?

Power options are a function of the motherboard and use whatever the chipset drivers allow;
  • The basic option is shutdown or do nothing but chipsets with a "sleep buttion" (most moden laptops) also allow the power button to sleep or hibernate.
  • Microsoft also added a driver function called "instantGo" and if you enable that then you can't also have hibernate as they make the boot unstable when used together.
  • There is a basic turn screen off after X time option but this isn't linked to the power and is in fact part of the lockscreen set of commands... I don't see any reasion you couldn't make a custom shortcut that does this as long as you have admin rights.
  • Running the system as a V-Windows inside hyper-v or vmware will also disable most power options because the host motherboard would be open to powerscripts otherwise... so good luck getting that firewall turned off.
