Windows 7 I copied my files over!

So, while copying some photos from my phone to computer in a folder which had older photos, I wasn't aware that the phone file names were reseted (starting again from name IMAG0001) and ones with the same name were replaced with new ones. Have I lost them forever or is there a way to retrieve them? I had some bad expiriences with windows backup and restore so I am not brave enough to try it again...

If you have restore points, you can retrieve them from there - without a restore using Shadow Explorer.

To overcome this issue, I would link to recommended you- SysTools Hard-drive data recovery software. This tool is able to retrieve deleted items and its Free- Trail edition of the software allows you to-

• Recover Formatted data
• Repair corrupt data
• Restore data from corrupted HDD
• Display Preview of Recover Data

I would suggest SpinRite 6. It's a bit expensive but well worth it IMO. SpinRite is a computersoftware program for scanning magnetic data storage devices such as hard disks, recovering data from them and refreshing their surfaces.

I am glad I could help. For the future I suggest you make periodic images so that you have copies to go back to. You cannot always rely on the restore points. They are very volatile.

If you are not going to rename all the photo files each time, I'd suggest that you make dated folders to move the files to from your phone.

I.e. Images from Jan 10 14 etc.

Then it won't matter if the files have the same name.
