Windows 7 IE8 - Download .torrent files - downloads without prompt/dialog box - or error cannot

find the file from server...

However, if I right click it and save as it works fine.

Also, when I click the link and it doesn't prompt me it actually downloads as I can look in C:\Users\USERNAME\Documents\Downloads and the files are there.

Any ideas what's going on with this? I've turned off Internet Explorer Protected Mode and I've also gone through Tools > Internet Options > Security > Downloads and everything appears to be in order.

What's weird is if I restart it seems to fix itself but then will break in about a day.

here is a screenshot of the error...

It seems to only been when the site references a .php file that supposedly calls and then loads the torrent file...

Sites that link directly to .torrent work fine.

No offense, but that's what you get for downloading torrents (along with virus's).

Didn't you have enough time to grab the official RC from Microsoft?

Thanks for being so nice and pleasant on this forum and welcoming a new member. I am actually a member of MSDN and have a completely licensed legitimate copy of Windows 7. Contary to your little pea brain there are plenty of legitimate torrent sites...

Again, I thank you for your contribution to this forum. You should become a moderator here.

Why do you come her for help? Doesn't your MSDN membership get you any technical support?

There is no need to come here and give a guy a hard time that has writen over 4,000 messages mostly helping Microsoft's support team fix Windows.

Just take into cosideration that he has seen hundreds of messages much like yours where some dude comes in here and basically says "HELP ME" "I was dowloadin sum warez from a torrent and my puter is broken."

If you can right click and get the file then the most likely problem is your security level is too high and it's blocked like a popup.

BTW, you not eve downloding the correct file. It's a .php file you're trying to download.

Yea torrents are great:eek:

No I'm doing it right...

On this particular site they do not link directly to the .torrent file. It's a .php file that then directs the location.

.php is a website page.

If you look in the box you pictured you'll see what I mean.

Maybe that's why it wouldn't download, ha

Not to drag this one forever, but you stated you had a legitimate copy from MSDN?

Why download a torrent?

Why download torrents? I'm not downloading the Windows 7 from the torrents...I told you I have an MSDN subscription and that is where I downloaded Windows 7 from. I am downloading other various things from torrent sites. There are plenty of legal torrent sites not tracking pirated data.

Could you post the sites that you are having difficulties with? Or at least PM them so I can try them myself?

I do remember a similar problem I had with downloading certain torrent files, IIRC it was caused by the file having illegal characters in it's name, like a comma, resulting in the 'download.php' error.

I don't think he ever said he was trying to get Windows from a torrent. There are all kinds of stuff -- from movies to software on torrents. He was probably just trying to download gay porn.
