Windows 7 If I don't install the new critical update?

I will be away from my laptop for a while. It is on but it is plugged in to the charger and it is closed. It is not being used.

So I have not installed the new critical update. Since my laptop is not being used, is it bad that I have not installed the update? Or does it not matter since it is closed and not being used?

I am just concerned that my laptop will get hacked if I do not install the newest update.

But if I am not using my laptop, it cannot get hacked from the bug right?

That is correct.
This security update resolves a vulnerability in Microsoft Windows. The vulnerability could allow remote code execution if a user opens a specially crafted document or visits an untrusted webpage that contains embedded OpenType fonts.
If you are talking about KB3074667, it would seem that it requires the user to actually start the ball rolling (as is usually the case).
