If you get Error: Cannot Open C:\Recovery.dat is it possible at reboot by pressing some key to type in no recovery, I'm just curius!

Well some people get that error for some reason, and I think I had it long time ago I just couldn't remember how to fix it

What confuses me about your question is I do not know how you got the message. It is not one that would occur if Windows had tried to do some type of repair option by itself. Were you doing a restore at the time, or can you explain further about when and how you got the message.

I do have a hidden system folder named Recovery in the C:\ directory, but I cannot open it to see what is inside. I do not see a recovery.dat file on my system.

I think this would help

Boot on DVD or bootable flashdrive
Choose your language and everything else
Than choose the “repair” menu (text menu not easy to see)
Choose “command prompt”
Type bootsect.exe then enter
Type bootsect /nt60 ALL then enter

reply if working or not
