Ok folks this one has got me stumped.
Friend has relatively new install of live mail on win 7 home premium. It has a issue where when you click on the new to bring up the compose window the window will always open in full screen. Attempts to re size the window and closing it do not work. Now this behavior does not happen in other programs and any pop up window will open in the same size as when last closed.
This does not happen on my system and I have check the folder settings and see nothing different between the two systems.
Anyone got any ideas

Solution
It seems like your friend is experiencing an issue with Windows Live Mail where the compose window always opens in full screen and doesn't retain the resized window state. This behavior is specific to Windows Live Mail and not seen in other programs on the same system. Here are a few troubleshooting steps you can try to address this issue:

Troubleshooting Steps:

  1. Reset Windows Live Mail Window Settings:
    • Close Windows Live Mail.
    • Press Windows Key + R to open the Run dialog.
    • Type %appdata%\Microsoft\Windows Live Mail and hit Enter.
    • In the folder that opens, look for a file named windowsmail.rtf.
    • Rename this file to something like windowsmail_old.rtf.
    • Open Windows Live...

    • Open Windows Live Mail again and check if the issue persists.
    []Check Compatibility Settings:
    • Right-click on the shortcut for Windows Live Mail.
    • Select Properties.
    • Go to the Compatibility tab.
    • Make sure there are no settings such as "Disable display scaling on high DPI settings" that could affect window behavior.
    [
    ]Update Windows Live Mail:
    • Ensure that Windows Live Mail is updated to the latest version. Outdated software can sometimes cause unexpected behavior.
    []Run in Compatibility Mode:
    • You can try running Windows Live Mail in compatibility mode for a different version of Windows (e.g., Windows 7 compatibility mode on Windows 7).
    [
    ]Check for Windows Updates:
    • Make sure that Windows and all related software are up to date by checking for and installing any available updates.
    []User Account Control Settings:
    • Temporarily disable User Account Control (UAC) settings and see if that affects the behavior of Windows Live Mail.
    [
    ]Create a New User Profile:
    • Create a new user profile on the system and test whether Windows Live Mail behaves the same way in the new profile. After trying these steps, check if the issue with the compose window persists. If the problem continues, it might be worth considering reinstalling Windows Live Mail or using an alternative email client. Feel free to try these steps and let me know if you need further assistance!
