Windows 7 Microsoft Loopback Adapter

As far as I know there is no need for any other device to support the Microsoft LoopBack Adpater.
Just open device manager
right click you computer at the top of the tree and choose add legacy hardware, then next, then Install the hardware that I manually select from a list, next, then select network adapters, then next, then select microsoft in the left column and Microsoft Loopback Adapter from the right column, then next, then finish.
If that is what you are doing and you are getting the error that you mentioned above, then I would suggest opening an elevated command prompt and typing
sfc /scannnow

i did as u said, thats exactly the process i used to install the adapter, i also ran the scan and no integrity violations was found.

tried to install again after the scan but i still have the same problem.

anything else i can try?

I haven't heard the phrase loopback adapter is so long, I assumed it was no longer necessary. Do you mind explaining why you feel you need one?

am actually an IT student, was told that i would need one for my laptop for my project... is the adapter considered obsolete?

The loopback adapter I last heard about was for a modem, but since I am not an IT specialist, I don't know much about techniques used today.

The remaining was not really relevant, but do you have a physical device, just a dummy asking... I did install it on my system, as was described with no error messages, but I have no way to use it, as far as I know.

it was for my networking class project.. was supposed to create a server of some kind. and i am a bit confused, wat physical device? NICs? what i know about the loopback adapter is that it acts as a dummy device of some sort? which is why i am puzzled as to why would the system report an error about a device is not functioning

I think what Saltgrass was asking is if you actually have a real physical network adapter card present on your system?
Would you please enable the built-in/hidden administrator account on your Windows7 computer, log off and log on with that account and see if you can install the loopback adapter.
If you're not sure how to do that read here Enable and Disable the Built-in Administrator Account

The learning curve is starting to level out a bit, so I have one question and a suggestion.

Is there any chance during your classwork that your system was modified and thereby creating a problem for the install?

The suggestion is to check the install log. It is organized by day so you can go close to the bottom and find the day you tried to install. Perhaps it will show something that would indicate where the error is. If you find something (or not) you might copy some of the text and attach the file using the paperclip in the Advanced reply. Since I just installed the Microsoft Loopback Adapter on another computer, I can compare my log to yours.

C:\Windows\inf\setupapi.dev.log

And the physical device was because I was still thinking 20 years ago, but there are physical loopback devices, they just don't go by the name you indicated in your post, which was my error.

Edit: The netloop.inf seems to be used to install the device. Possibly something listed in it will lead to a missing file or some such thing.
