A glowing blue digital microphone icon stands on a desk in front of a computer screen.

Microsoft’s “Hey Copilot” wake word is now in testing for Windows 11, available to Windows Insiders. This hands-free voice activation works similarly to “Hey Siri,” “Hey Google,” and “Hey Alexa,” letting you summon the Copilot AI assistant by simply saying, “Hey Copilot.” Here are the main points:
  • Availability: Currently rolling out to Windows Insiders (users who preview new features before the general public).
  • How it works: Enable it in Copilot’s settings. Once on, say “Hey Copilot” when your PC is unlocked to initiate a chat or ask questions.
  • Privacy: The wake word detection is done locally on your device; only the voice command following the wake word is sent to Microsoft for processing.
  • Language: The feature is initially available in English only.
  • Requirements: Windows 11, enrollment in the Windows Insider program, and an active internet connection.
This update signals another step in Microsoft’s integration of AI across their platforms, providing a more seamless, hands-free interaction with your Windows PC.
If you’re a Windows Insider, you can try it now by updating your system and enabling the feature in Copilot’s voice settings. For more details, see the announcement and coverage on NDTV Profit and other tech news outlets.
