hi every1 i got windows xp 32 bit professional and i try to install windows 7 ultimate 64 bit when i start the installation after a little time the setup appears an error windows couldnt retrieve information about the disks on this computer and i press ok and setup closes i done all windows updates too and i recently formatted my hard disk before moving on windows xp 32 pro i only got 1 hard disk on my pc

Solution
I always recommend partitioning a hard drive and storing all user files on the second partition, reserving the system drive for system software, installed apps, drivers etc. I suggest you partition your system now and copy all your userdata across from the system drive then run a clean install to your system drive. It would be useful if you could first back up all your user data to an external medium such as optical disks or a usb drive as a precation against losing data during partition management.
You cannot install Win 7 64 in upgrade froma 32 bit system. You will need to fully format the drive and run a clean install of Win 7.
