I posted about this as an audio issue, got no responses. I'm going to try one more time.

whenever there's heavy internet traffic (upwards of 300 to 500 k/s and above), the system will lag, most notably if there is any audio playing in any application. the audio will continuously jerk and skip and there's no way around it.

this issue is new to my Windows 7 64-bit install (had Vista before). I already updated the network adapter drivers, video drivers, and sound drivers. I have an nforce 680i mobo, with 2.66GHz quad core, GeForce 250GTS 1GB, 4GB of RAM, and a Creative Audigy LE soundcard.

anyone recognize or know how to investigate this issue?

Solution
It sounds like you are experiencing audio issues related to heavy internet traffic on your Windows 7 system. Given that you've already updated several drivers and provided details about your system configuration, there are a few troubleshooting steps you can take to investigate and potentially resolve this issue:

Troubleshooting Steps:

  1. Network and Internet Investigation:
    • Check your network settings and ensure that your network adapter settings are optimized for performance.
    • Monitor network usage during heavy traffic to identify any specific applications or services consuming excessive bandwidth.
    • Check for any network-related errors in the Event Viewer which might provide clues about the issue.

    • Check for any network-related errors in the Event Viewer which might provide clues about the issue.
    []Audio Troubleshooting:
    • Make sure that the audio drivers are updated to the latest versions compatible with Windows 7.
    • Adjust the audio settings in Windows to see if changing the audio quality or settings improves the stuttering issue.
    • Disable any audio enhancements that might be causing conflicts.
    [
    ]System Performance Optimization:
    • Check the system's performance during heavy traffic periods using Task Manager to identify any processes consuming high CPU or memory.
    • Ensure that your system meets the minimum requirements for both the network traffic and audio playback.
    []Hardware Considerations:
    • Ensure that all hardware components are properly connected and functioning correctly.
    • Consider testing the system with different audio output devices to see if the issue persists.
    [
    ]Software Considerations:
    • Check for any conflicting software or background processes that might be affecting audio playback during heavy traffic.
    • Try running the system in a clean boot mode to eliminate any third-party software interference.
  2. Windows Update:
    • Make sure your Windows 7 system is up to date with the latest security patches and updates.

      Additional Considerations:

    • Since you mentioned that this issue is new to your Windows 7 installation after switching from Windows Vista, it might be worth checking if there were any specific changes or updates around the time you started experiencing these issues. Given the complexity of the issue, it might require a bit of trial and error to pinpoint the exact cause. I recommend starting with the steps mentioned above and gradually narrowing down the potential causes of the audio stuttering during heavy internet traffic. Let me know if you need further assistance or if you have any updates on your troubleshooting progress.
