Windows 7 Newly saved/created files missing after restart

I try to search them but nothing is coming up and then I saved/created again but the computer tells me "another file with that name already existed..." but I don't seem them anywhere in the folder.

What is happening?

When you create them, do you get an option as to where to create them? Do you know where it is supposed to be putting them?

If you search for them, make sure and start in the C: partition and not somewhere that does not contain the folder they might be in?
