Windows Vista Not able to delete a file

Hi All,
here goes my problem. for the last one week am trying to delete a file from my desktop in vista. But the system is not able to do that. Apparently, it shows something like ' estimating the size of the file' and goes on like that(System shows this whenever we copy/delete things) The size of the file is 128 MB and it is an .avi format which i copied from CD. I scanned this for virus, tried to delete from command promt..but no luck...need help !

Hi! You don't say Vista or XP so I'll assume Vista.
I've read through this older conversation and their advice is still valid: Cannot delete a file saved to my desktop - Vista Forums (They said you can't delete the file because windows search is indexing) Let me know if any of this stuff works for you...
