4 months from tomorrow, July 12, 2011, Microsoft Office XP will exit its "Extended Support Phase" ending, among other things, the provision of security updates for it.

July 12 is the second Tuesday of the month—Patch Tuesday—and Microsoft always schedules such support retirements on a Patch Tuesday to provide a last chance to fix bugs.

Unlike other Office versions, the component applications in Office XP do not use the same edition name ("XP"). They are known as Word 2002, Excel 2002, Outlook 2002 and so on. Support for all these applications ends on the same date.

After that date, Office XP/2002 products will continue to work, but no free fixes of any kind will be provided.
