I recently added a Windows 7 Professional computer to my home network. The other PCs are still running in XP SP3. The new W7 computer can communicate one way with the XP computers fine (retrieving files and printers); however, even though I believe I have filled all the "sharing" blocks on the W7 computer, the XPs do not find either the printers on the W7 computer or the C drive. They only find "Default" & "Public" users going from the XP to the W7! Where did I miss something?

Solution
I got it to work! :) (for 1 share so far) This is what i did:

Created an itentical user name on the win 7 PC

Right click the drive and go into properties - sharing and advanced sharing

Select share this folder

Add the new user name (Share Name) then click permissions
and give read, right and full control

Then go into the security tab and click edit then click add and add the new user

(make sure the user has full control in the security tab) everyting checked except Special permissions

After you add the new user and while in the security tab select the new user then click advanced

Select the new user and click change permissions

then select the new user

Check the box for "Replace all child permissions with...
I can only get 1 drive working so far.

I had a similar problem with two Win 7 machines. Checking "Client for Microsoft Networks" in network properties resolved it for me.

I just posted but it doesnt appear to have shown up. If it does, I apologize for the double post. This is what I found. Add "Everyone" to the Security and Sharing sections of the drive or folder you want to share and give full permissions. This seems to work. :) I even removed the identical login name on the share in the security tab and the sharing tab. (Kept the account though)
