Windows 7 Problem after updating

Is anyone else having a problem with internet connection after updating?
Windows 7 on a new computer.... I installed updates this afternoon and lost internet connection. Did a system restore and once again installed updates, and once again lost my internet connection. I am using a wired connection, but would not recognize the wireless card either. Did another restore and will not update until I find out what is going on.
Any help solving this puzzle will be greatly appreciated.
