Windows 7 Problem with USB drives?

I've got a Lenovo z560 Ideapad. Any time I plug anything into one of my USB drives (two different external hard drives, Kindle) it prompts me to scan and fix (which never finishes when I try). Things I plug in constantly disconnect and reconnect, and are sometimes totally unresponsive. Chkdsk tells me there are no problems with any of the drives, and I don't have any viruses. Any ideas?

Solution
You might try going to Device Manager and uninstalling all USD drives then reboot. When you reboot Windows will automatically reload the drivers.

When you unplug the flash drives you have to right click as shown and select Eject USB Flash Memory and wait to get the OK before removing it, otherwise it will want to scan the next time you plug it in.
