Windows 7 Problems opening Clips

Hi,

When attempting to open a some web clips I get the following message:

Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage
What you can try:
Diagnose Connection Problems
res://\\ieframe.dll/dnserror.htm
More information
This problem can be caused by a variety of issues, including:
  • Internet connectivity has been lost.
  • The website is temporarily unavailable.
  • The Domain Name Server (DNS) is not reachable.
  • The Domain Name Server (DNS) does not have a listing for the website's domain.
  • There might be a typing error in the address.
  • If this is an HTTPS (secure) address, click Tools, click Internet Options, click Advanced, and check to be sure the SSL and TLS protocols are enabled under the security section.

If I right click on the Web Clip as "Save to desktop" I can then play the clip
Any ideas what's wrong??
Of course none of the above tips worked.

Thanks

What is the file extension of the clips you are trying to open?

Is Internet connectivity lost entirely or just for these certain clips.

It could be a security issue where the file needs to be downloaded rather than opened in the browser (which is a good idea)

Clips won't open

Hi,

Thanks. The file ext. is .wmv.. Please note the connection is not lost. Not all clips won't open. Many do w/o
a problem.

Also, as I stated I can simply right click the clip and open it after the download.

If it's simply a sccurity setting, where and what setting locations?

Thanks

Like I said, it's not a good idea to open them.

I would download the file to the desktop and if you don't want to keep it, simply delete it.

I tried downloading one myself and got the Information bar asking if I wanted to run the following add-on........Windows Media Player Extension from Microsoft Corporation

Even though I trust it, I wouldn't add it.

Some Internet Radio Stations use the .axs file extension and the only way you can use it is by installing that particular add-on.
