Hi! First I watched movies and used pc fine, but I guess it was next time I tried to watch some movies, things got pretty weird. I connected pc to projector via DVI to HDMI cable. My htpc windows user doesn't have aero, so desktop picture was excellent. As soon as I opened video file using any player (MP, MPC HC, ZoomPlayer), the whole screen will randomly start bugging out. Lots of whole screen wide green or red lines apper and ghost pictures etc really freak stuff starts to happen. As soon as I closed video player, things got back to normal and picture is just great. I tried VGA picture via D-SUB, but it gives same result (and I can't get good/clear picture at all via D-SUB...). Then I switch to other user which has Aero in use. Well, picture gets buggy all the time (event I didn't start to play any video file) until I turned off the Aero.

Cabels and projector are ok 'cos I tested them with another source and no problem. I quess if things got bad after I installed Visual Studio 2008 SP1 and .NET Framework 3.5 SP1, but I don't have any proofs. I'm just guessing that that was something I had differently in windows since the last time I watched movies. I also installed X700 drivers again but it didn't help.

When I play video files via DVI or D-SUB connected to my Samsung SyncMaster 225BW LCD monitor, there is no problem.

Anyone else heard or had anything like this? Any ideas what to do to get video out to work again?

OS: Windows 7 Professional RTM 64bit
PC: Acer Ferrari 4600, 2gb ram, ATI Mobility X700
Projector: Panasonic PT-AE700
Used resolution: 1280x720, and several others, but it didn't matter

Thanks!

It sounds like you're experiencing some display issues when connecting your HTPC to a projector via DVI to HDMI cable. The problem seems to be specific to video playback on the projector and not on your monitor. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try to address this issue: 1. Graphics Driver: Since reinstalling the X700 drivers didn't help, you could try rolling back to a previous driver version or updating to the latest driver available for your ATI Mobility X700 graphics card. Sometimes, newer drivers may introduce compatibility issues. 2. Video Playback Software: Ensure that your video playback software is up to date. Sometimes, outdated software can cause display glitches. Consider updating your media player to...
It sounds like you're experiencing some display issues when connecting your HTPC to a projector via DVI to HDMI cable. Consider updating your media player to the latest version or trying a different video player to see if the issue persists. 3. Codec Pack: If you have any codec packs installed, they could be causing conflicts with the video playback. Consider uninstalling or updating the codec pack to ensure smooth playback. 4. Hardware Acceleration: In your video player settings, try disabling hardware acceleration. Sometimes, hardware acceleration can cause display issues, especially when playing video on external displays. 5. Aero Theme: Since you mentioned Aero causing issues, consider disabling Aero themes on the user account where you're experiencing problems. 6. Compatibility Mode: You can try running your video player in compatibility mode. Right-click on the application shortcut, go to Properties, and then to the Compatibility tab. Try running the application in compatibility mode for an earlier version of Windows. 7. Check Cable Connections: Ensure that the DVI to HDMI cable is securely connected to both the HTPC and the projector. Try using a different HDMI cable to rule out any issues with the cable itself. 8. Power Settings: Check your power settings to ensure that the display is not set to turn off during video playback. Sometimes, power-saving features can interfere with video output to external displays. 9. System Restore: If you suspect that the issue started after installing Visual Studio 2008 SP1 and .NET Framework 3.5 SP1, you could try performing a system restore to a point before these updates were installed. By following these steps, you may be able to pinpoint the source of the issue and resolve the display problems you're facing when playing videos on your projector. If the issue persists, it might be beneficial to seek further assistance from a technical support professional.
