Windows 7 Random BSODs caused by ntkrnlpa.exe and win32k.sys

I filled out my system specs and am including the requested files as instructed (includes dump files). Since last week, I have gotten a few BSODs. All but one (0x1000008e KERNEL_MODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED) were 0x000000c2 BAD_POOL_CALLER. Both types were apparently caused by Windows system files ntkrnlpa.exe and win32k.sys. There seems to be no correlation between them occurring and any particular software or action (have gotten them upon moving and renaming files, browsing the internet, and even while being absent from the PC). My drivers are all kept up to date; so are my windows updates. I hadn't installed any new hardware, drivers, or software for awhile (some time before the crashes began). I can't seem to relate it to anything else. I ran Memtest for 20 hours and there were no problems with my RAM at all. I have also run a few different hard drive testing utilities and they all showed both my drives to be completely fine. My hard drives also aren't in need of defragmenting. Additionally I have done thorough scans for viruses and malware with a couple different programs, but that came out to be clean as well. Also lately I have been getting some random slowdowns and even crashing with random programs (has happened with programs I use the most); I think this could be related. I'd like to know what could be causing the BSODs, how I could stop it, and if it might mean something fatal to some hardware or my data.

No additional info from the MSINFO32 file - but it does confirm the actions that I asked you to perform in my previous post.

The PxHelp20.sys file is a large concern as it dates from 2003. It's most likely associated with an older CD/DVD program that you've installed. Removing this driver can cause your CD/DVD drive to stop working - so test it thoroughly with each program (to include Windows) when you're done.

To remove safely remove drivers that you aren't sure about:

1. Create a System Repair Disc. Go to Start...All Programs...Maintenance...Create a System Repair Disc

2. Create a System Restore Point

3. Download and install Autoruns (free from here: Autoruns for Windows )...

MSINFO32 report isn't in the uploaded reports. Please do the following:

- Go to Start (or press the “Win” and “R” keys at the same time), type in "msinfo32" and press Enter
- When the utility opens, save a copy of it as an .nfo file, and another copy as a .txt file (in case the .nfo is corrupted - which happens fairly often)
- Zip them up and upload them to the Public area of a SkyDrive account ( Link Removed )
- Post a link here so we can download it.

Daemon Tools (and Alcohol % software) are known to cause BSOD's on some Win7 systems (mostly due to the sptd.sys driver, although I have seen dtsoftbus01.sys blamed on several occasions).

Download a fresh copy of Microsoft Security Essentials. Then un-install the current version and immediately install and update the new version.

AMD OverDrive (AODDriver2.sys) is either a stand-alone application, or a component of the AMD VISION Engine Control Center. This driver is known to cause BSOD's on some Win7 systems.

Please un-install all AMD/ATI video stuff from Control Panel...Programs...Un-install a program
Then, download (but DO NOT install) a fresh copy of the ATI drivers from Link Removed - Invalid URL (in the upper right corner of the page)
Use this procedure to install the DRIVER ONLY: Link Removed

If the device (AODDriver or AODDriver4.01) remains a problem, open Device Manager, select the "View" item.
Then select "Show hidden devices" and scroll down to the Non-Plug and Play Drivers section.
Locate the AODDriver entry, right click on it and select "Uninstall". Reboot for changes to take affect.

Sometimes the driver remains and continues to cause BSOD's. If this is the case for you, post back and we'll give further instructions for safely removing it.

If overclocking, please stop. Remove the overclock and return the system to stock/standard values while we're troubleshooting. Once the system is stable again, feel free to resume the overclocking.

Please update these older drivers. Links are included to assist in looking up the source of the drivers. If unable to find an update, please remove (un-install) the program responsible for that driver. DO NOT manually delete/rename the driver as it may make the system unbootable! :

I thought I'd add to this post that I recently got a BSOD I hadn't seen before, 0x0000001a MEMORY_MANAGEMENT. I added the dump for it in the SkyDrive account along with the msinfo32 files if you want to have a look at that. Here's the link for those:

I had a problem with some of the drivers. The conextant drivers seem to be connected to an old 56k modem I removed and it won't let me update it with a newer version nor can I figure out how to uninstall it. The nvidia drivers appear up to date from what I've looked up. I can't find a way to update the PxHelp20.sys (I'm not sure what it's for either). I updated the other drivers.

3. Download and install Autoruns (free from here: Autoruns for Windows ). Search within Autoruns for anything that has the name of that driver. Disable them by removing the checkmark from the far left column.

4. Check in services.msc for any services related to the maker of that driver. Disable any that you may find.

5. Check Device Manager (to include the View...Show hidden devices menu) and see if there are any entries named for that driver. If so, disable them (later on you can uninstall them).

6. Rename the driver filename extension from .sys to .BAD (should be located in C:\Windows\System32\drivers folder). Don't rename the entire file - just the extension after the period (.).

7. Reboot

If the system won't boot, use the System Repair Disc (Command Prompt option) to re-rename back from .BAD to .sys

Then use the System Repair Disc (System Restore option) to restore the system to the state it was in prior to attempting to remove the driver.

Good luck!

You can use this procedure to also remove the 56k modem drivers - BUT only do one driver at a time, and then test. You don't want to have a bunch of drivers to mess with if the system won't boot for you!
