Hi, first post here! Simply cannot figure out what is wrong with the new windows 7 machine I built for my dad's office. It took the place of another pc to which remote desktop forwarded so I was able to get it up and running fairly quickly, but while I can connect to the pc via remote desktop, I can't actually log into it using the correct username and password. This is on a windows 7 machine, a windows xp machine and a macbook pro.

However, the remote desktop connection works flawlessly from my iphone with RDP or from Logmein. Anybody got any idea how to rectify this or what might be causing it

Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try to rectify this problem: 1. Check Network Settings: - Ensure that the Windows 7 machine is connected to the network. - Verify that the network settings on the Windows 7 machine are correct. 2. Firewall Settings: - Check the firewall settings on the Windows 7 machine to allow Remote Desktop connections. - Make sure that the necessary ports (TCP 3389) are open for Remote Desktop. 3. Remote Desktop Settings: - Confirm that Remote Desktop is enabled on the Windows 7 machine. - Check the Remote Desktop settings to allow connections from any version of Remote Desktop (less secure option). 5. Credentials: - Double-check that you are entering the correct username and password. - Try using the domain\username format when entering credentials. 6. Update Remote Desktop Client: - Ensure that the Remote Desktop clients on Windows XP and the MacBook Pro are up to date. - Update the Remote Desktop Client on the Windows 7 machine if needed. 7. Test with Another User: - Create a new user account on the Windows 7 machine and test if you can log in using that account via Remote Desktop. 8. Check Logs: - Look for any error messages in the Event Viewer on the Windows 7 machine that might indicate the cause of the login failure. 9. Security Software: - Temporarily disable any security software or antivirus programs that might be blocking the Remote Desktop connection. 10. Verify DNS Settings: - Ensure that DNS settings on all devices are correctly configured to resolve the Windows 7 machine's hostname. Try these steps and see if any of them help resolve the login issue. If the problem persists, you may need to dive deeper into the network configuration and security settings to identify the root cause. Feel free to provide more details if you need further assistance!
