I attempted to start in safe mode with the intension of running malwarebytes in safe mode but PC won't start in safe mode.
Pressing F8 before splash screen but all I get is a small blue panel asking what drive to boot but whatever I do it always starts normally (apart from being mega slow to boot after I've attempted this) :beaten:

Hi

Open up start options (type msconfig in the run box) and set it to diagnostic startup and reboot.

It should start without loading anything but the essentials.

Sorry I edited my post while you were replying.

I'm running Windows 8 and there's an option to load in safe mode under the Boot Tab.
I don't remember if it's the same in Windows 7 or not.

On my ASUS board, the F8 key is used to get a Boot Devices menu and switches to Safe Boot options after the Post and before Windows starts.

Using F5 during the Post is supposed to get into the Safe Mode options.

But the machines are so fast now, hitting the key at the correct time is difficult. If you have Fast Boot enabled, it might be even harder.

Mike's suggestion of checking the Safe Boot option on the boot tab in msconfig.exe might be the easier way. While in Safe Mode, uncheck the box to boot back into regular mode.
