Good morning,

I have a network under a domain where server is powered by windows small business 2003.

I have 20 pcs in this net. Some pcs are running windows 7.

One of them is trying to make a search in shared folder by Windows Explorer. This search is made by archive's name and by any expression into the archive. But nothing is returned.

But, on another pc, with Windows 7 too, the same search returns 262 archives.

Please, what could be happenning with this PC that not returns any archive?

Thanks

It seems like you are facing an issue with one of the Windows 7 PCs on your network that is unable to return search results when searching in a shared folder using Windows Explorer, while another Windows 7 PC on the same network returns the expected search results. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can follow to try and resolve this issue:

Troubleshooting Steps:

  1. Check Network Connectivity:
    • Ensure that the problematic PC has proper network connectivity to the shared folder.
    • Check if other network resources are accessible from the problematic PC.
    []Indexing Options:
    • Check the indexing options on the problematic PC. Sometimes, the search results might not show up if the folder isn't...

Sometimes, the search results might not show up if the folder isn't indexed.
    • You can access Indexing Options by typing "Indexing Options" in the Start menu search on the PC.
    [
    ]Windows Search Service:
    • Verify that the Windows Search service is running on the problematic PC.
    • To check this, type "services.msc" in the Start menu search, locate "Windows Search" in the Services list, and ensure it is running.
    []Rebuild Search Index:
    • If the indexing seems to be corrupted, you can try rebuilding the search index.
    • Go to Indexing Options, click on "Advanced," and then click on "Rebuild."
    [
    ]Check Folder Permissions:
    • Ensure that the user on the problematic PC has the necessary permissions to access and search the shared folder.
    • Verify the shared folder permissions on the server hosting the shared folder.
    []Check for File Type Settings:
    • Check if the file type settings on the problematic PC are correct. Sometimes, Windows Explorer might not search certain file types by default.
    • You can adjust file type settings in Folder Options in Windows Explorer.
    [
    ]Restart the PC:
    • Sometimes, a simple restart of the PC can fix temporary issues in the system.
  2. Network Troubleshooting:
    • If the issue persists, consider checking for any network-related issues, like firewall settings or network configuration.

      Additional Recommendations:

      • Ensure that both PCs have the same Windows Search settings and configurations.
      • Update Windows and ensure that all PCs on the network are running the latest updates.
      • Consider running a virus scan on the problematic PC to rule out any malware issues impacting the search functionality.
Try these steps and see if they help resolve the issue with the search functionality on the problematic Windows 7 PC. If the problem persists, further investigation might be needed to identify the root cause.
