I got the driver for the nvidia cards from the sticky and tried to install it (the official drivers from windows and nvidia caused frequent random freezes) but it didn't fix the issue. Do I need to run it as an administrator, compatibility mode, etc?

Solution
When installing drivers, especially for graphics cards like NVIDIA, there are several best practices to follow to ensure a successful installation and to avoid issues like random freezes: 1. Run as Administrator: It's generally a good practice to run the driver installation as an administrator to ensure that the installation process has the necessary permissions to make system-level changes. 2. Compatibility Mode: While newer drivers are usually designed to work on the latest Windows operating systems, trying to install the driver in compatibility mode can sometimes help. Compatibility Mode: While newer drivers are usually designed to work on the latest Windows operating systems, trying to install the driver in compatibility mode can sometimes help. You can try running the driver installer in compatibility mode for an older version of Windows if you encounter compatibility issues. 3. Clean Installation: Before installing the driver again, ensure that you perform a clean installation. This involves uninstalling the current NVIDIA driver completely before installing the new one. 4. Safe Mode: In some cases, installing drivers in Safe Mode can also prevent conflicts with other system processes. You can try booting into Safe Mode and installing the driver from there. 5. Disable Antivirus and Firewall: Sometimes, security software like antivirus or firewall programs can interfere with the driver installation process. Temporarily disable them before installing the driver. 6. Check System Requirements: Make sure that the driver version you are installing is compatible with your specific NVIDIA card model and the version of Windows you are using. 7. Check Event Viewer: If the system is freezing after installing the driver, you can check the Event Viewer for any error logs that might provide insight into the cause of the freezes. 8. System Restore Point: Before making any changes to your system, create a system restore point so that you can revert back in case anything goes wrong during the installation process. If you have tried these steps and are still facing issues with random freezes, you might want to provide more details about your system configuration, the specific NVIDIA card you have, and any error messages or logs you've observed during the installation process. This information can help in providing more targeted troubleshooting steps.
