New Dell Studio with Windows 7 installed at factory. Backup stalls at 28%, just as it is suppose to start copying to D:/. When I read what is on the dvd it ends with 13 images of the restore icon. I also found that I can't restore to an earlier time either. Tried restore with Norton shut down did not help.:(

Solution
It seems like you are encountering issues with the backup process on your new Dell Studio running Windows 7. The fact that the backup stalls at 28% and ends with 13 images of the restore icon could indicate a problem with the backup image or the backup software. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot the issue:

Troubleshooting Steps:

  1. Check Disk Space:
    • Ensure that the destination drive (D:/) has enough space to accommodate the backup file. If it's running out of space, this could be causing the backup to fail.
    []Run Check Disk (CHKDSK):
    • Run a disk check on your D:/ drive to ensure there are no disk errors that could be causing the backup to stall.

    []Run Check Disk (CHKDSK):

    ]Update Drivers:
    • Make sure all your system drivers are up to date, especially the storage controller drivers, as they can sometimes cause backup issues if outdated.
    []Try Safe Mode:
    • Attempt to perform the backup operation in Safe Mode. This can help determine if any third-party software or drivers are interfering with the backup process.
    [
    ]Use Windows Backup Tool:
    • Try using the built-in Windows Backup and Restore feature instead of the Dell-specific backup tool to see if the issue persists.
    []Disable Security Software:
    • Temporarily disable any security software, like Norton, during the backup process to see if it is causing interference.
    [
    ]Check System Restore:
    • If you are unable to restore to an earlier time, there could be issues with the System Restore feature. Make sure the System Restore service is running and functioning correctly.
  2. Check Event Viewer:
    • Look for any error messages related to the backup process in the Windows Event Viewer. This might provide more detailed information on what's causing the stall at 28%.

      Additional Notes:

      • If you continue to experience issues, it might be beneficial to reach out to Dell support for assistance, especially if the system is new and under warranty.
      • Creating a system image using third-party backup software like Macrium Reflect or Acronis True Image could be an alternative solution if the built-in backup tool continues to fail.
Try these steps and let me know if you need further assistance or if any of these steps resolve the issue.
