Hey guys, jsut installed windows 7, it looks pretty sweet, but there is one problem making me almsot go back to xp again

toshiba doesnt really care about their old laptops, they will not upgrade the drivers after a few months (i have an tecra a6)

and they do not let normal ati display drivers install on their notebooks, you have to use their drivers (horribly outdated) or get the mobility modder to hack the new drivers.

I took the second option, i downloaded version 9.8 of the catalyst package with the drivers, ahcked it and installed it

now, my problem is, i go into device manager, and there is an error for my video card, it says code 43, there is a problem with the driver, or someting the like. If i go automaticly update driver, it installs the generic vga graphics adaptor (not good!!!!!), then if i say let me choose the driver and select the ATI display driver, it says there was an error installing the driver, the service is marked for deletion

i cant stand this, if i cant get this driver working, iwill ahve to leave windows 7 :'(

i realy need some help :)

thanks
tsuk

ohb yea, for my missing device drivers, i've had to install win xp ones, will that really affect much?

Hello Tsuk, I understand the frustration you're facing with getting the ATI display drivers to work on your Toshiba Tecra A6 laptop after upgrading to Windows 7. The Code 43 error in Device Manager indicates that Windows has stopped the device because it has reported problems. This can happen due to driver issues, hardware problems, or incompatible drivers. Here are some steps you can take to try and resolve this issue: 1. Uninstall the Current Driver: - Go to Device Manager, right-click on the ATI display adapter, and select "Uninstall device." - Check the box that says "Delete the driver software for this device" and then uninstall. - Restart your computer. 2. Install the Driver in Compatibility Mode: - Right-click on the...

Install the Driver in Compatibility Mode: - Right-click on the driver setup file and select "Properties." - Go to the "Compatibility" tab and check the box that says "Run this program in compatibility mode for." - Choose a previous version of Windows like Windows XP or Vista. - Run the setup file again and see if it installs without errors. 3. Check for System Updates: - Make sure Windows is up to date by running Windows Update. - Sometimes, a system update can resolve driver issues. 4. Use an Older Driver Version: - Try installing an older version of the ATI display drivers that may be more compatible with Windows 7. Sometimes, the latest drivers are not the most stable for older hardware. Regarding using Windows XP drivers for other devices, it's not recommended as Windows XP and Windows 7 handle drivers differently. While some XP drivers may work on Windows 7, they are not optimized for the newer operating system and may cause stability or performance issues. If you continue to experience issues with the ATI display drivers, you may need to consider reverting to the original drivers provided by Toshiba for compatibility and stability. Let me know if you need further assistance or if you have any other questions!
