So i assume this goes in the network section but looking for another set of eyes if you will on this one. So far I have joined to the homegroup and am able to view and access all the files of the other windows 7 computer. Ive checked the permissions and should be allowed on both ends to fully access everything. I have media streaming turned on on both ends as well. But when i go to stream in the other devices area it says not other devices. Any ideas?

It seems like you're facing an issue with streaming media from one Windows 7 computer to another within a homegroup network. Since you've already ensured that you've joined the homegroup successfully and have verified the permissions, there are a few additional steps you can take to troubleshoot this problem. Here are some suggestions:

Troubleshooting Steps for Media Streaming Issue:

  • Check Network Discovery Settings:
  • Ensure that Network Discovery is turned on for both computers. This setting allows your computer to see other network computers and devices.
  • Go to Control Panel > Network and Sharing Center > Change advanced sharing settings, and make sure that Network Discovery is enabled.

  • Verify Homegroup Sharing Settings:
  • Double-check that both computers are part of the same homegroup and that the media streaming settings are correctly configured.
  • Go to Control Panel > HomeGroup and ensure that media devices are allowed to access the homegroup.
  • Restart Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service:
  • Sometimes, restarting the Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service can resolve streaming issues.
  • Press Win + R, type services.msc, find "Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service," right-click, and choose Restart.
  • Update Media Library:
  • Make sure that the media library on both computers is up to date.
  • Open Windows Media Player, go to the Library tab, and select "Update Library" to refresh the media content.
  • Firewall and Antivirus Settings:
  • Check firewall and antivirus settings on both computers. Ensure that they are not blocking the network communication required for media streaming.
  • Try Direct Connection:
  • If the issue persists, try creating a direct connection between the two computers using an Ethernet cable to rule out any network issues.
  • Restart Devices:
  • Restart both computers and networking devices to clear any temporary glitches that might be causing the problem.
  • Recreate Homegroup:
  • As a last resort, you can try leaving the homegroup on both computers and creating a new homegroup to see if that resolves the streaming issue. By following these steps, you should be able to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the media streaming issue between your Windows 7 computers.
