I have a new Windows 7 Pro 64x system and I decided not to use UAC so I set the slider to the lowest setting and rebooted. All worked well for a while but it appears that occasionally, when I reboot, UAC is reset to the highest value. I cannot find an event that causes this and I have not been able to find much information about it. I have been using PCs for many years and I fully understand the purpose of UAC. I don't need it and Microsoft provided a way to turn it off. My problem is that something is causing it to turn on again. Even if I set UAC at one of the intermediate levels, it randomly resets to the highest level.

It seems that despite your efforts to disable User Account Control (UAC) on your Windows 7 Pro system by setting it to the lowest level, it occasionally resets to the highest level after a reboot. This behavior can be frustrating, especially when you prefer to keep UAC disabled. Here are a few steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve this issue:

1. Check for Third-Party Software Interference:

  • Some third-party software or security suites may interfere with the UAC settings. Ensure that there are no conflicting applications that might be changing the UAC settings.

    2. Malware Scan:

This behavior can be frustrating, especially when you prefer to keep UAC disabled. Here are a few steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve this issue:

1. Check for Third-Party Software Interference:

  • Some third-party software or security suites may interfere with the UAC settings. Ensure that there are no conflicting applications that might be changing the UAC settings.

    2. Malware Scan:

  • Conduct a thorough scan of your system for any malware or malicious programs. Malware can sometimes alter system settings, including UAC settings.

    3. Windows Update:

  • Make sure your Windows 7 system is up to date with all the latest updates. Sometimes, Windows updates can address system stability issues.

    4. System Files Check:

  • Run the System File Checker (sfc /scannow) command in the Command Prompt to check and repair system files if any corruption is found.

    5. Task Scheduler:

  • Check the Task Scheduler for any tasks that might be resetting the UAC settings. Look for any suspicious or unknown tasks.

    6. Registry Settings:

  • Check the registry settings related to UAC to ensure they are correctly configured. Making changes in the registry should be done with caution.

    7. Group Policy Settings:

  • Look into Group Policy settings (gpedit.msc) to see if there are any policies overriding your UAC settings.

    8. User Account Control Troubleshooter:

  • Windows has a built-in troubleshooter for User Account Control issues. You can try running this tool to identify and fix any problems. If none of the above steps resolve the issue, it might be beneficial to monitor the system closely after each change to see if you can pinpoint the specific trigger causing the UAC settings to reset. Remember, disabling UAC comes with security risks, so it's important to evaluate the implications of keeping it disabled on your system.
