i apologise if this seems like a stupid post. i am trying to sort out my new acer laptop (windows 7 home premium) but have a problem with wireless connections. if i am next to the wireless modem then my connection is fine, but as soon as i move more than 4 m away i lose the connection although sometimes it claims to still be able to 'see' the network. this happened with the last modem i had as well. i also have an xp desktop, an HTC phone (runs android) and a mac all of which can connect to this wireless network throughout my house without a problem and have always been able to do so. the wireless signal is strong everywhere i want to use it.
i presume there must be a setting on the acer that needs to be changed?

thanks for any help

Simon

ps
all drivers are up to date

Simon, It sounds like you're experiencing connectivity issues with your Acer laptop specifically when it comes to wireless connections. The fact that your other devices can connect without any problems suggests that the issue might be with the settings or configuration on your Acer laptop. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can take to address the wireless connectivity issue on your Acer laptop: 1. Update Wireless Drivers: Since you mentioned that all drivers are up to date, it's good to ensure that the wireless network adapter driver on your Acer laptop is functioning correctly. 2. Check Wireless Adapter Settings: - Go to Control Panel > Network and Sharing Center. - Click on "Change adapter settings" on the left side...

Check Wireless Adapter Settings: - Go to Control Panel > Network and Sharing Center. - Click on "Change adapter settings" on the left side. - Right-click on your wireless adapter and select "Properties." - Check the settings under the "Wireless Networks" tab to ensure they are configured correctly. 3. Power Settings: - Sometimes, power-saving settings can affect the wireless adapter's performance. Check the power settings to ensure that the device is not being turned off to save power. 4. Signal Interference: - Ensure that there are no physical obstructions or signal interference sources like other electronic devices, large metallic objects, or appliances that might be affecting the wireless signal. 5. Router Settings: - Check the router settings to make sure that there are no restrictions on the wireless network that might be causing the issue. 6. Signal Strength: - Even though the signal is strong, there might be signal fluctuations that affect the connection quality at a distance. You might want to consider relocating the router or using a Wi-Fi range extender to improve coverage. 7. Network Profile: - Delete the saved network profile on your Acer laptop and reconnect to the network to create a fresh connection profile. Try these steps and see if they help improve the wireless connectivity on your Acer laptop. If the issue persists, there might be a hardware problem with the wireless adapter that needs further diagnosis. Let me know if you need more assistance or have any other questions!
