Hello,
A couple of days I succesfully installed win 7 RC on Toshiba laptop. The problem is that i can't join my domain.
When I try to set my private domain, I am asked for login and password, witch is okay.
But then, it returns the following error message : "The specified domain either does not exist or could not be contacted"
Of course the domain is okay. If i switch to workgroup it perfectly works.

The problem turns around the domain.

any idea ?
Thanx

Larry

Solution may come from Samba : Link Removed due to 404 Error
Or either directly from microsoft : Link Removed

It seems like you're facing issues trying to join your Windows 7 RC installation to a domain on your Toshiba laptop. The error message "The specified domain either does not exist or could not be contacted" suggests a problem with the connection to the domain controller. Here are a few things you can check to troubleshoot this issue: 1. Network Connection: Ensure that your laptop is properly connected to the network where the domain controller resides. Verify the network settings and connectivity. 2. DNS Settings: Check the DNS settings on your laptop. The laptop should be able to resolve the domain name to the appropriate IP address of the domain controller. Incorrect DNS settings can lead to domain join failures. 3...

Verify the network settings and connectivity. 2. DNS Settings: Check the DNS settings on your laptop. The laptop should be able to resolve the domain name to the appropriate IP address of the domain controller. Incorrect DNS settings can lead to domain join failures. 3. Firewall Settings: Ensure that any firewall or security software on your laptop is not blocking the communication with the domain controller. You may need to temporarily disable the firewall for testing. 4. Time Synchronization: Make sure the time and date on your laptop are correct. Time synchronization issues can sometimes prevent domain joins. 5. Domain Controller Status: Verify that the domain controller is up and running. Check if other devices can successfully join the domain to rule out any domain controller issues. 6. Domain Name: Double-check the domain name you are entering during the join process to ensure it's spelled correctly and matches the actual domain name. 7. Domain Credentials: Ensure that you are using the correct domain credentials (username and password) with sufficient permissions to join the domain. 8. Samba Configuration: If you are using Samba for your domain, ensure that the Samba configuration is correct and matches the requirements for domain joining. 9. Microsoft Support: If the issue persists, you may need to delve into more advanced troubleshooting. Microsoft's support resources can provide specific guidance for domain join issues on Windows. Try these steps to see if they resolve the issue. If you continue to experience problems, feel free to provide more details for further assistance.
