As the October 14, 2025, end-of-support date for Windows 10 approaches, ASUS has joined Microsoft in urging users to transition to Windows 11. This recommendation aligns with Microsoft's strategy to phase out Windows 10 and promote the adoption of Windows 11, particularly emphasizing the capabilities of Copilot+ PCs.
ASUS's recent support document highlights the impending deprecation of Windows 10 and underscores the security benefits of upgrading to Windows 11. Post-October 2025, Windows 10 will no longer receive feature or security updates, potentially exposing users to vulnerabilities. The document also introduces Copilot+ PCs, which integrate advanced AI features designed to enhance productivity and user experience.
Copilot+ PCs are equipped with Neural Processing Units (NPUs) that enable on-device AI processing. This hardware supports features like image generation, text summarization, and the Recall function, which assists in retrieving past activities. ASUS has expanded its Copilot+ PC lineup to include models powered by Intel, AMD, and Snapdragon processors, catering to a diverse user base.
However, the adoption of Copilot+ PCs has been gradual. By the end of the 2024 holiday season, only 10% of PCs sold were Copilot+ models. Microsoft aims to increase this figure significantly within the next two years. Despite the push, some users find that Windows 11 functions adequately without the AI-centric features of Copilot+ PCs. Additionally, these advanced models tend to be more expensive and may lack the graphical power required for certain tasks.
The cost factor is significant. Copilot+ PCs are priced higher than entry or mid-level Windows 11 PCs. Organizations, in particular, might opt for non-Copilot devices due to budget constraints. While Microsoft offers an Extended Security Updates program for Windows 10, it is a temporary solution, and prolonged reliance on it is not advisable.
In summary, with Windows 10's end-of-support date nearing, both Microsoft and ASUS advocate for a timely upgrade to Windows 11. While Copilot+ PCs offer advanced AI features, users should weigh the benefits against the costs and their specific needs. Ensuring system security and staying updated with the latest features are paramount considerations in this transition.
