RUNNING WINDOWS 7600 RTM. acer m5641- q6600 4gig ram-ati 4650- all drivers are installed. Everything works except flashdrives. I plug the drive in and windows detects it and seems it as a flash drive- yet media player 12 only reports it as u3 not as the flsh drive, for some reason windows media player 12 ingnors the drive part and only pocks up on the u3 software when i click sync it asks for an empty drive and does not so my flash drive as an option. yet if i right click the u3 drive on the left side of wmp12 and goto properties it shows it as a flash drive. Also the letter of the drive does not show up. windows assigns the flash drive 2 different letters. it shows up as drive n in windows as the drive yet in wmp12 it shows up as f and says u3. any ideas?

Solution
It seems like you are experiencing issues with recognizing your flash drive properly in Windows Media Player 12. This could be due to how the drive is being detected and assigned letters by the operating system. Here are some steps you can try to resolve this problem:

Steps to Resolve the Issue:

  1. Assign a Permanent Drive Letter to the Flash Drive:
    • Press Win + X and choose Disk Management.
    • Right-click on the USB drive, select Change Drive Letter and Paths, and assign a permanent letter to the drive (preferably a letter that is not being used by other devices).
    []Reformat the Flash Drive:
    • Be cautious as this will erase all data on the drive.

    • Right-click on the USB drive in Disk Management and select Format.
    • Choose the file system (usually NTFS or FAT32) and perform a quick format.

    ]Update USB Controller Drivers:
    • Ensure your USB controller drivers are up to date.
    • Go to Device Manager, expand Universal Serial Bus controllers, right-click on each controller, and select Update driver.
    []Check for Windows Updates:
    • Make sure Windows is up to date by checking for and installing any pending updates.
    [
    ]Check AutoPlay Settings:
    • Press Win + I, go to Devices, and under AutoPlay, make sure the settings are configured to ask you what to do with removable drives.
    []Verify USB Drive Compatibility:
    • Ensure that your USB flash drive is compatible with Windows 7 (7600 RTM) and Windows Media Player 12.
    [
    ]Disable U3 Software (If Present):
    • U3 software can sometimes cause conflicts with Windows recognition. If you can, disable or remove U3 software from the flash drive.

      Additional Tips:

      • Make sure your Windows 7 system is fully updated.
      • Try using a different USB port on your computer to see if the issue persists.
After attempting these steps, check if Windows Media Player 12 can now recognize your flash drive correctly. If the issue persists, it might be helpful to try the troubleshooting steps on a different computer to isolate if the problem lies with the flash drive or the Windows system configuration.
