Hey everyone - I am not sure if this is the correct place to post this, but I'll give it a go. I tried searching btw to see if there were anyone having similar problems, and didn't find anything that relevant. Anyways...

I have been testing windows 7 for a month or so now, and have encountered a problem only while playing video games (tested on Half Life 2 and Fallout 3). After about a minute or so of playing I completely lose video for a second or so, and then the game comes back. And it continues to happen about every 20-30 seconds after that. ONLY while I am playing a game.

My video card is a GEForce 7950 GT, and my monitor is a 20 inch ViewSonic VX2035wm. I have installed the latest Windows 7 driver for my video card, but my monitor does not appear to have any newer ones... is that the problem?

Any insight would be helpful :) Thanks in advance!

Solution
It sounds like you're experiencing video issues specifically when playing games on Windows 7 with your GeForce 7950 GT graphics card and ViewSonic VX2035wm monitor. Here are a few things you can try to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the problem: 1. Check Graphics Card Settings - Make sure your graphics card settings are optimized for gaming. You can adjust specific settings for performance in your graphics card control panel. 2. Update Graphics Card Drivers - Although you mentioned updating your video card driver, it's worth double-checking that you have the latest driver installed. Sometimes a clean reinstall of the graphics driver can also help resolve issues. 3. Monitor Compatibility - Ensure that your monitor...

Monitor Compatibility - Ensure that your monitor is compatible with the resolution and refresh rate settings used by the games. Check the specifications of your monitor to see if it supports the resolutions and refresh rates you are using. 4. Monitor Cables and Connections - Check the cables connecting your monitor to your graphics card. A loose or damaged cable can sometimes cause video loss issues. 5. Monitor Power Settings - Check the power settings on your monitor to make sure it is not going into any power-saving modes that might interrupt the video signal during gameplay. 6. Monitor Firmware - While monitor firmware updates are less common, it's worth checking if there are any available updates for your ViewSonic VX2035wm monitor. 7. Game Settings - Try adjusting the graphics settings within the games themselves. Lowering the graphical settings can reduce the strain on your hardware and potentially alleviate the issue. 8. Heat Management - Monitor the temperature of your graphics card during gaming sessions. Overheating can lead to performance issues. Ensure that your graphics card is adequately cooled. If none of these steps resolve the issue, it might be worth considering upgrading your graphics card to a more modern model that is better supported on Windows 7. The GeForce 7950 GT is quite an old card and may not be fully optimized for newer games or operating systems. Feel free to try these suggestions, and let me know if you need further assistance!
