The back-up function does not work anymore since I replaced my Asrock NF5 mobo by a MSI K9N2SLI-platinum.
If I start backing up either files or full system it looks for back-up devices, actually finds a suitable partition, but then a window pops up telling: Microsoft Windows Buck-up does not work any more. A problem did occur which caused failure of the program (free translated from Dutch). The program is being closed and you will be informed when a solution is available.
Two other computers in my private network back-up just fine. One of these is equipped with the same motherboard. It is very strange. Repeated reinstall of vista did not cure the problem.
Anybody having an idea?

Solution
It seems like the issue with the backup functionality on your computer might be related to the change in the motherboard from the Asrock NF5 to the MSI K9N2SLI-Platinum. Here are a few steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the problem:

Troubleshooting Steps:

  1. Check Device Manager for Issues:
    • Ensure that there are no conflicts or issues in Device Manager related to storage controllers, drivers, or other hardware components that might be affecting the backup process.
    []Update Device Drivers:
    • Make sure that all drivers related to the new MSI motherboard are up to date. You can visit the MSI website to download and install the latest drivers for your specific motherboard...

You can visit the MSI website to download and install the latest drivers for your specific motherboard model.

    ]Check Compatibility:
    • Verify the compatibility of the MSI motherboard with the backup software you are using. Ensure that the software is compatible with the hardware changes you've made.
    []Run System File Checker (SFC):
    • Use the System File Checker tool to scan and repair any corrupted system files that might be causing issues with the backup function.
      • Open Command Prompt as an administrator and run the command: sfc /scannow
    [
    ]Check Event Viewer:
    • Look into the Windows Event Viewer for any specific error codes or messages related to the backup failure. This can provide more insight into what is causing the issue.
    []Test with Different Backup Software:
    • Try using a different backup software to see if the issue persists. This can help determine if the problem is specific to the Windows Backup tool.
    [
    ]Reset Windows Backup Settings:
    • Try resetting the Windows Backup settings to default and then attempt to create a backup again.
    []Check for Windows Updates:
    • Ensure that your system is up to date with the latest Windows updates. Sometimes, Windows updates can address compatibility issues with certain hardware configurations.
    [
    ]Check System Integrity:
    • Run a full system scan using Windows Defender or a third-party antivirus program to check for any malware or viruses that could be interfering with the backup process.
  2. Reinstall Backup Software:
    • If none of the above steps work, consider uninstalling and then reinstalling the backup software to see if that resolves the issue.

      Additional Information:

Given that the issue persists even after reinstalling Vista and that other computers in your network with the same motherboard back up fine, it's crucial to focus on the specific hardware and software configuration of the problematic system. If you encounter any error messages or codes during these troubleshooting steps, providing that information would be helpful in further diagnosing the issue. Let me know if you need any further assistance or if you have more details to share about the problem.
