Hi,

Faulting process id: 0x2f0
Errors on your system may be caused by invalid registry entries and outdated or corrupt drivers.

Please ensure drivers and bios are latest versions.

Did you upgrade or perform a clean or custom install? If you upgraded then chances are you'll be better off wiping clean and doing a clean install.

If you'd rather not follow the above route or did a clean install anyway try the system file checker. Open an admin cmd prompt by right clicking in the bottom left hand corner of the screen and then choosing admin cmd prompt from the list. Type:

sfc /scannow

Press enter and await results.

Are you using win 8 with a local or Microsoft account? If it's just a local account, trade up and obtain a microsoft account here:
https://login.live.com/login.srf?wa...nt.live.com/summarypage.aspx&lc=1033&id=38936

Another thing to check is viral or malware activity. I use Defender but also back it up with Malwarebytes. Nothing is better at search and destroy:
Malwarebytes : Free anti-malware download

I did a upgrade originally but after hearing some horror stories, I wiped my drive and then did a double install because I only have windows 8 pro upgrade.

If you'd rather not follow the above route or did a clean install anyway try the system file checker. Open an admin cmd prompt by right clicking in the bottom left hand corner of the screen and then choosing admin cmd prompt from the list. Type:

sfc /scannow

did this several times didn't find anything.

Press enter and await results.

I have both currently.

I use Vipre and have never had a problem.

Did this issue just start up or has it been like this from the get go?

I notice in your replies that your using a local and a microsoft account. Does the issue crop up in both accounts? You could also try running a chkdsk and see if anything needs repairing. You'll need to right click your HDD icon, choose properties, Tools and then check now. It will probably say it doesn't need checking but run it anyway.

Yes it does in both accounts. I'll try chkdsk and see what happens.

Oh and if this is a driver problem could it be caused by my having to use 7 drivers instead of 8 drivers? ASUS hasn't updated my motherboards drivers for what seems like forever. And I had to use 7 drivers to get any normal speed on 8. Windows 8 drivers are turtle slow on this motherboard.

chkdsk update:
no error where found. I ran it on all drivers.

I can only assume it's either one of two things. As weird as it sounds the local account might be the cause and removing it may help. Apart from that you might have some corruption, which is indicated in the error code, trying a refresh may help.
Using win 7 drivers should be ok although when you say the 8 drivers are slow which drivers are you referring to?

When I installed windows 8 it was only running on the drivers provided by MS. Those drivers are really slow on this board.

Quick Update:

I started to going threw all my logs and found a interest event. Seems like all my errors are originating from my sounds drivers. I Rolled back to MS's basic sound drivers and my problems stopped. Every tile on the Start screen opens with the first click. No more errors in my event logs.... hmnmmm lol makes you wonder why/how sound would be connected to opening a program from the start screen?

Well Now all I have to do is find a sound driver that doesn't cause problems with my system.

Thanks again for all the help everyone!

If you can provide your system information, like motherboard, gpu, ect. I'll point you in the right direction.

Hi,

I checked on the availability for audio drivers re your set up. Trouble is it's not as straight forward as it seems. The audio chip is actually made by Via although one is kinda led to believe it's something from Creative as the term 'X-Fi' is used. The chip is VT2020, if my info is correct, although all I could find on the Via site was drivers for VT2120. What I suggest is you try a post here:
Crosshair Series Motherboards

As other users will have most likely found a way around this and got full functionality (or maybe not), anyway they are probably the best guy's to speak to with this issue. Please let me know how you get on or if you need further help post back.

VIA's web site is where I got those drivers that where causing me so much problems. I wouldn't recommend installing them on a board that has Windows 8 installed because of them making 8 so unstable.

Where the Creative Supreme X-Fi comes in is the custom software that takes advantage of the advanced option on the VT2020 chip. This software may also be part of the problem because of the drivers provided by ASUS differ from those provide by VIA and how both companies implement driver instructions.

Download version 10.1200A is the driver I had that was causing problem on my system. Note the chip version that is supports.

VIA HD Audio Codecs VT1702S, VT1705, VT1708B, VT1708S, VT1716S, VT1718S, VIA HD Audio Codecs VT1802P, VT1819S, VT2021, VIA HD Audio Codecs VT1812S, VT1818, VT1828S

Not the same but close.

I've spent some time doing research on the VT2020 chip set. Seems VIA made that chip special for ASUS motherboards and even though they provide a generic driver for them they aren't 100% compatible with the chip. My case in point lol.

I also emailed ASUS technical support when this problem started asking if they are going to provide updated drivers.

[Problem Description]
Is there going to be New Chip set, Audio, etc. Drivers coming out for Windows 8? I
only see them for Windows 7 and previous windows.

And there reply.

Thank you for contacting ASUS Customer Service.

My name is Fiona and it''s my pleasure to help you with your problem.

Windows 8 driver or program is continually test and release, please wait for a little further, and so, the follow-up you could focus on the ASUS website, once the new version for it, it will released our official website.

Thank you for your understanding!

Welcome to refer Troubleshooting & FAQ for ASUS products in ASUS

If you continue to experience issues in the future, please do not
hesitate to contact us.

Best Regards,
Fiona

So don't know if that was an auto form reply based on key words or "Fiona" just didn't understand my question.

In conclusion, lol feel like I'm back in college writing a term paper, I'm just going to leave my system alone and cross my fingers hoping that ASUS is working on drivers and Windows 7 pro comes up on sale.

I hope they do release something for that board as being an 'enthusiast' myself I can appreciate what a fine board that is. I'm a bit surprised though at the convoluted nature of the audio set up as usually simple works best but hopefully you won't have to wait too long.

I'm not sure either. I'm a hardware guy and I have to dip my foot into software to get the hardware going but other then that I'm lost when you get to detailed on me lol.
