Hi

My new computer finally shipped!!!

I'm climbing the walls without a computer to work on, it's been 3 weeks since I ordered it, my old one sitting fried in the other room.

Now I start checking the tracking link every few hours. LOL

Well at least I know it's on it's way now.

I've decided that I will try and use the Windows 8 interface for at least a week.
If I can't stand it I will install Classic Shell after that.

The problem is that the Metro UI is going to look pretty horsey on a 27" monitor.

Is there any way to control the size of the icons on the start page?
I'd like them to be about half the size they are by default.

Mike

The internet is scary.
I just noticed that while I'm typing this there is an add for dog treats on the right side of the screen. I'm betting that not every one see this ad.

How do they know I have a dog (two actually).

Controlling Icon Size on the Start Screen in Windows 8

In Windows 8 and newer versions of Windows, including Windows 8.1 (update to Windows 8) and Windows 10, you can adjust the size of the icons on the Start screen by changing the display settings. Here's how you can do it:
  1. Access Settings:
    • Move your cursor to the upper or lower right-hand corner of your screen to bring up the Charms Bar.
    • Click on "Settings," then click on "Change PC settings" at the bottom of the Charms Bar.
  2. Modify the Start Screen Tile Size:
    • In the PC settings, click on "PC and devices" and then click on...

    • Under "More Options," you can change the "Change the size of apps, texts, and other items on the screen" slider to adjust the size of the tiles on the Start screen. Alternatively, if you're using Windows 8.1 or Windows 10, you can right-click on an empty space on the Start screen and select "Customize" to change the size of the tiles. By adjusting this setting, you can scale down the size of the icons to better fit your 27" monitor.

      How Advertisers Know Your Preferences

The ads you see online are often tailored to your interests through targeted advertising. Advertisers use various methods to gather information about users, including tracking online activities, website visits, search history, and demographic data. This information helps them create personalized ads based on your preferences and behavior online. The process involves the use of cookies, pixels, and other tracking technologies to collect data about users. For instance, if you've searched for pet-related content, visited pet websites, or engaged with pet-related ads before, advertisers may infer that you are interested in pets and show you relevant ads. It's all part of online advertising strategies to make ads more relevant to users and increase the chances of engagement. If you find this concerning, you can adjust your privacy settings, use ad blockers, or clear your browsing history and cookies regularly to limit the amount of personalized advertising you see online.
