Please advise me on what files to delete in the list that appears when you run Windows 10 cleanup. Thank you.
Solution
The article says do not delete esd files. You may not see these, as they are only present during an upgrade/update. But good advice.
For a quick cleanup, I choose
1. Temprary Internet Files
2. System related Error reports. (These are, in any event, recreated)
3. DirectX Shader Cache (If you have it)
4. Recycle Bin
5.Temporary Files
6. Thumbnails.
And that is all!
From time to time, I run the clean up tool as Administrator, and select everything. But, I must warn, that I always have a preceding image made (I use Acronis, but there are several good image makers , free)
To date, fingers crossed, I have never had a mishap or a need for the image.

Note for people, Disk Cleanup has changed in the recent versions of Windows 10 and now has an option to clear your Downloads folder. I've found a lot of users have stuff they want to keep long term in their Downloads folder, therefore we do not check this option when running disk cleanup on client's computers. Just something to keep in mind. It used to be completely safe to check everything, now we check everything except Downloads

I think it just deletes the contents. Wouldn't that be a good thing?Don't delete the shader cache it's there to speed up loading textures in any games you play.

Ok. I don't play games.
But I found this, which I am sure will assist the op quite a lot. A detailed explanation of each item shown in the cleaner.
