Microsoft has released the KB5058502 Preview update for Windows 11, introducing a suite of enhancements aimed at improving user interaction and system functionality. This non-security update, applicable to versions 22H2 and 23H2, brings notable changes to Copilot shortcuts, widgets, and the Windows Share feature.
Enhanced Copilot Shortcuts
The update introduces new keyboard shortcuts to streamline access to Copilot:
- Win + C: Opens Copilot. Users can customize this shortcut via Settings > Personalization > Text input.
- Hold Win + C (or the Copilot key) for two seconds: Initiates voice interaction with Copilot.
- Alt + Spacebar: Instantly starts a voice conversation with Copilot.
Improvements to Taskbar, Settings, and Widgets
Several enhancements have been made to the taskbar, Settings, and widgets:
- FAQs Section: A new FAQs section under Settings > System > About provides answers to common setup and compatibility questions.
- Taskbar App Management: Administrators can now control which taskbar apps remain unpinned using the new PinGeneration option.
- Lock Screen Weather Widget: In the European Economic Area (EEA), the lock screen weather widget now supports customization, with plans to extend this feature to more widgets in the future.
The Windows Share functionality has been improved to support drag-and-drop actions:
- Drag-and-Drop Sharing: Dragging a local file now triggers a share tray at the top of the screen, allowing users to drop the file into suggested apps or open the full share window.
The update addresses several issues:
- Voice Typing: Resolved functionality issues with the Chinese (Simplified) narrow keyboard.
- Symbols Section: Fixed a bug where page switching in the Symbols section inadvertently entered characters in password fields.
- Voice Access: Corrected an issue where voice access would become unresponsive during dictation.
