So there i was listening to music on msn etc... and suddenly i get a pop up in the corner telling me that i need to activate my version of windows i found this odd because it has been activated for some time i tried to enter the product key from the side of my pc and its no longer valid
any ideas why this could happen or how to fix it

I would call MS a call if your version is valid They most likely can help get ti activated, explain what happened. This happened to me more than once usually when I did a hardware up that MS sent out.

Try re-entering your product key.
If not, check the Windows Update history for KB971033, if you're running a pirated version of Windows 7, this update would have detected it and produced the problem, but I'm going to assume if you're posting here for help, that you're using a genuine copy.
