Hi! My father's computer been broken and he thought it was a virus attack. The problem is that it won't boot even though I tried all the choices (safe mode, boot from last good configuration,etc.). None of them worked. It kept repeating and repeating.

It's an upgraded version from Windows XP (to Windows 7).
Error code: 0xc0000039
Missing driver: win32/drivers/joyar.sys

What are the reasons that it happen?
How do I fix it?
Is only the solution to fix it is through its installation disk(repair) or by reformat?

  1. Using Windows Installation Disk for Repair:
    • Boot your computer from the Windows installation disk.
    • Choose the Repair option to access the Command Prompt.
    • From the Command Prompt, you can try fixing the boot configuration using commands like bootrec /rebuildbcd, bootrec /fixmbr, and bootrec /fixboot.
    []System Restore:
    • If you have a restore point created before this issue occurred, you can try to perform a System Restore to revert the system to a working state.

    ]Driver Replacement:
    • If you can identify the correct driver file needed (joyar.sys), you can try replacing it using external media (like a bootable USB drive).
    []Safe Mode with Command Prompt:
    • Try booting into Safe Mode with Command Prompt to perform driver-related troubleshooting tasks.
    [
    ]Repair Install (Upgrade):
    • Another option is to perform a repair install or upgrade installation of Windows. This process retains your files, settings, and applications while repairing the system files.

      Reformatting:

    • Reformatting the system should be considered as a last resort, as it will erase all data on the computer. However, if all other methods fail, a clean reinstall of Windows may be necessary. Before proceeding with any repairs, it's advisable to back up any important data if possible. If you have difficulty identifying the correct driver or need further assistance with specific repair steps, feel free to ask for guidance. It's recommended to attempt less intrusive solutions first before considering a reformat as it involves data loss and complete system setup from scratch.
