I run the Windows 7 Ultimate setup from within Vista and the install screen comes up. I click install and within a minute or two the install screen closes abruptly. It even does this in safe mode too, so there is no likelyhood of something running that cause this behavior. HELP. I have installed the Windows 7 OS twice on other machines running all the same apps with not problems with the same setup files. The machine is a Dell XPS 710, 4GB RAM, DUO Core 2.4 GHZ The screen says starting windows setup and some like coping temp files, it may get to the do you want to download files from the internet or not and ask me to fresh install or upgrade. Then even the compatibility check may start but the the window closes abruptly leaving the setup screen left up.:(

Verify Installation Media: - Ensure that the Windows 7 Ultimate setup files you are using are intact and not corrupted. Try using a different installation disc or create a new installation USB drive to rule out any issues with the setup files. 3. Disconnect External Devices: - Disconnect any unnecessary external devices connected to your computer during the installation process. Sometimes, incompatible external devices can cause installation issues. 4. Update System BIOS: - Check if there are any BIOS updates available for your Dell XPS 710 model. Updating the BIOS can sometimes resolve compatibility issues during the installation of a new operating system. 5. Memory Test: - Run a memory test to check if the RAM is functioning correctly. Faulty RAM can cause installation failures. 6. Check Hard Drive: - Verify the health of your hard drive. A failing hard drive can lead to installation issues. You may run a diagnostic tool to check the status of your hard drive. 7. Clean Installation: - If you encounter issues during both upgrade and fresh install options, consider performing a clean installation of Windows 7 Ultimate. This involves formatting the existing Windows Vista partition and installing Windows 7 on a clean drive. 8. Drivers Compatibility: - Ensure that all necessary drivers for your Dell XPS 710 are compatible with Windows 7 Ultimate. Check the Dell support website for updated drivers compatible with Windows 7. 9. Security Software: - Temporarily disable any security software or antivirus programs during the installation process as they may interfere with the setup. 10. Try Different Installation Method: - If the issue persists, you can try installing Windows 7 Ultimate using a different method such as creating a bootable USB drive using a tool like Rufus. By following these steps, you should be able to troubleshoot and resolve the issue you are experiencing during the Windows 7 Ultimate installation on your Dell XPS 710 machine. If the issue persists, feel free to provide more details for further assistance.
