Well folks, it's not often you see me start a thread in the support forum. But in my lazy days, I just don't feel like looking around for a solution myself.

The problem is a long delay after login. I login, and then it takes 30+ seconds for my PC to be ready to use. The only start-up programs are Messenger Wave 4 (woohooo got accepted for beta tester :D), Synaptics touch driver, Launch Manager. I keep my drive defragged and all that good stuff.

What else can I try?
It's been this way ever since I bought this PC in December.

Operating System Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
Computer Type Gateway NV5329H
Processor AMD Turion II X2 M500 (Dual Core)
Motherboard Gateway SJV50TR
Video Card ATI Radeon HD4570 (512 MB Dedicated, up to 1.7 GB Hyper)
Memory 4 GB DDR2
Hard Drive 320 GB
Network AdapterAtheros AR5B93 N-Draft 2.0
Anti-virus Software: Microsoft Security Essentials

As you should all know, I'm experienced and will try anything

TIA, :D

You can do this by: - Pressing Windows key + R, type "msconfig" and press Enter. - In the System Configuration window, navigate to the Startup tab to manage which programs start with Windows. 2. Update Drivers: - Make sure all your drivers, especially for your AMD Turion II X2 M500 processor, are up to date. You can visit Gateway's official website or AMD's site to download the latest...

You can visit Gateway's official website or AMD's site to download the latest drivers. 3. Check for Malware: - Although you have Microsoft Security Essentials installed, consider running a full system scan to rule out any malware that might be causing the delay. 4. Windows Performance Troubleshooter: - Run the Windows Performance Troubleshooter to detect and resolve any issues affecting system performance. - Press Windows key + R, type "control panel" and hit Enter. - In Control Panel, go to Troubleshooting and then View all. - Select System Maintenance and follow the on-screen instructions. 5. Disk Cleanup and Defragmentation: - Perform a disk cleanup to remove unnecessary files and then defragment your hard drive for better performance. - Press Windows key + R, type "cleanmgr" and press Enter for Disk Cleanup. - For defragmentation, type "dfrgui" in the Run dialog and press Enter. 6. Check for Background Processes: - Use Task Manager (Ctrl + Shift + Esc) to check for any resource-intensive processes running in the background that might be causing the delay. 7. Hardware Check: - Ensure that your hardware components like the hard drive and memory are functioning properly. You can run diagnostics tools provided by your PC manufacturer. 8. Registry Cleaning: - Be cautious with this step; cleaning the registry can sometimes do more harm than good. Consider using reputable registry cleaning tools if necessary. After trying these steps, check if the delay after login has improved. Feel free to share any updates or additional information so we can further assist you in resolving this issue.
