I have a problem with my audio in Windows 7 64bit. I just switched from XP to Windows 7, I installed the latest driver for my ALC883 on board audio card (P5K). Now when I play a song on my 4.0 boxes I have weird sound coming from the rear speakers, like you can only hear the beats and no voice.

If I play this same song (also with windows media player) on xp this went perfect, you can hear the (full)song as well in the front or at the back speakers...

Does anyone have an idea what I can do to fix this?
(speaker fill settings is also turned on, otherwise I don't get sound from the rear speakers)
thx, Fre

Solution
It seems like you're experiencing issues with your audio after switching from Windows XP to Windows 7. The problem you're facing is related to sound distortion specifically affecting the rear speakers on your 4.0 speaker setup. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try to fix this issue: 1. Check Speaker Configuration: - Ensure that your speaker configuration settings match the physical setup of your speakers. In Windows 7, go to Control Panel > Sound > Playback tab > Select your speakers > Configure to set up the correct speaker configuration (in your case, 4.0 speakers). 2. Update Audio Driver: - Even though you mentioned installing the latest driver for your ALC883 onboard audio card, it's worth double-checking if...

2. Update Audio Driver: - Even though you mentioned installing the latest driver for your ALC883 onboard audio card, it's worth double-checking if the driver is fully compatible with Windows 7. Visit the manufacturer's website to see if there are updated drivers specifically for Windows 7. 3. Check Enhancements and Effects: - In the Sound properties, go to the Enhancements tab and try disabling any enhancements or effects that might be causing the issue. Sometimes, enhancements can distort sound output. 4. Disable Audio Enhancements: - Open Control Panel > Sound > Playback devices > Select your audio device > Properties > Enhancements tab > Check "Disable all enhancements" and see if this improves the sound quality. 5. Check Application Settings: - Ensure that the audio settings within the media player you are using (e.g., Windows Media Player) are correctly configured. Make sure that the player is set to output the correct audio channels. 6. Test with Different Media Players: - Try playing the audio with different media players to see if the issue persists across all players. This can help identify if the problem is specific to a particular application. 7. Windows Update: - Make sure your Windows 7 system is up to date with the latest updates from Microsoft. Some updates may include fixes or improvements related to audio playback. 8. Check Speaker Connections: - Verify that all your speakers are correctly connected to the appropriate ports on your sound card or motherboard. By going through these steps, you should be able to diagnose and potentially resolve the sound distortion issue you're experiencing with your rear speakers on Windows 7.
